College Reflection

School has been a great experience so far. Its challenging, it's hard and difficult but its worth it. Each class challenges me in different ways, I pull out things from class everyday. Staying on top of your work is a big deal, if you don't. Catching up will be almost impossible for you. I've come to realize getting as much as I can get done early helps out alot. It reduces stress, it reduces the workload, and also your quality of work is alot better most of the time. The saying all work and no play comes alive here no one wants this and with the opportunity to take time off on the weekends this becomes more evident. Choices you make shape your entire life things may become good or bad from the decisions you make. So when forced with the choice that every student has when it comes to work and play being responsible is extremely important. Work tends to pile up on the weekends regardless of how much you get done. Even when you try to get as much as you can get done on the weekend. It seems like things tend to always pile up. So theres a choice to be made and that choice is either to stay home get what you need to get done or to go have fun. This is a hard decision for kids being that some are immature and dont know limits but then again those hard decisions are what mold us our lives and our experiences. When you think about this people should take what they do and what they choose more into consideration. If it was thought of like this then people would take every decision into account and then everything would be more critical. Should I go with my friends to have fun or stay and try and finish this homework. Ofcourse I'll have time to finish it when I get back but whats more important having fun or doing things to make you succeed in life. And when you get home there is a possibility you won't the time you need to get whatever you need done. Everyone wants to win everyone wants to consider themself as a winner and associate with winners. But winning choices usually arent made by most people, so when someone isnt a winner or successful who are they to be mad at anyone besides themselves. Failure is easy thats why the number of unsuccessful people is so much higher than the number of successful people. People who think about everything they do and if this particular thing benefits me or hurts me make all the small choices and decisions that lead them to that success at the top

Education

Most of my classes in college don't relate to my other classes at all. Each class covers its own topics its own agenda and their own cases. I guess this is the point of a liberal education, to be well rounded in many different areas of education. Whether this is ideal in education I don't know yet. I may never know being that I most likely won't compare this to any other college education. I wonder if all other students across the country feel that they have to take classes that have nothing to do with their major. If so do they think these classes are uneccessary and a waist of time. Students being young and wreckless as a whole usually just want to get things over with and hurry up and get to what they are pursuing. I'm guilty of this we probably all are I hate waiting with a passion it seems like sometimes. But do I feel like taking these different classes are a waist of my time? Definitely not I feel like being well rounded is extremely important who knows exactly what you need to do in the future. Most professions these classes can help you in, when most people say they never ever used this or that again in life they are usually wrong. The things they learned were used in life but they just didn't realize that these things were used in their everyday life. My Frex and Comp class are starting to relate to eachother a little bit, they're actually starting to intertwine. My Comp teacher is using some of the readings from the TLU reader in our class for different topics. I think this is good because we're going more into depth with the TLU reader. Usually we don't have a discussion on the Tlu reader in Frex so this will be a chance to discuss what's in there in the classroom format.Something I do wonder is if the classes we take in the future will be founded on the classes we take in our college career. When I think about it like this almost all of our classes are related. Im taking pre-cal right now and next semester I'll be taking calculus and so on and same with the sciences you take. In this sense some classes are related to eachother but not all of our classes are related though. Hopefully what ever I do take from my college education here at Texas Lutheran I will be successful with the education I recieve here.

Blog 2 Balancing

Classes have been starting to pick up. Juggling fun and class is different than I thought it was going to be. I guess I thought it would be more than easy to do. Like in scene one I'd be receiving an A+ in one of my classes and in my next scene I'd be at a party having fun and in my last scene I'd be in the gym putting up hundreds of shots everyday. But things don't work like this because there isn't enough time in the day to do all these things. Judging by this past weekend I thought I had enough time to do all of these things. Im even starting to get the feeling that im starting to relax with classwork and now Im trying to juggle school and a social life. The feeling I have is of a man walking down a wire line balancing weights on each hand. With the weights representing college work on one hand and a social life on the other. It takes a lot of planning, discipline, and practice to do this. Much like any athlete or person serious about a sport. Discipline is very important and seeking information from those around you may help you mold your decisions in a positive or negative way. Those that have been in your position can offer very valuable advice that may help you succeed. And vice versa, people that have been in your position may persuade you in the wrong way. This can also be done by yourself in the choices you make positive and negative. You make yourself do good in your classes and in whatever else it is by your choices in classes and etc. This past weekend hasn't been one of my best performances I usually get about the majority of my homework done and put off just a little bit of homework I have. This friday I worked the volleyball game all day and didn't even take a second glance at my homework. This behavior kind of rolled over into saturday which made sunday a heavy work day. Balancing time and keeping priorities in order is a very big deal and should be treated in that manner. It can make and break most people in many different ways from success in what you aspire to be in life or what you want to achieve. Work ethic and descipline in these 4 years can determine so much of what your life is going to be. That's why a solid work ethic is so important to be established right now. As I continue to go to school I'll find a way to balance these things as well as I can.

1st blog entry

Adjusting to college life has been a challenge and a crazy experience. When in high school I was not even close to being prepared for the experience I would go through in college. I thought about the parties the fun and the freedom I would have away from home. I didn't take into consideration the many things i've realized to be so important to me. Like family, and being able to continue to sleep in the same bed every night I have slept in for the last eight years. Getting to school and adjusting to the college was somewhat hard because I was positive I knew everything.Yet I had no idea what I was truly getting in to. The responsibility of being on your own making your own choices and deciding what you want to do without virtually anyone to answer to, is a huge deal. Which made me finally truly understand why many people go to college. But when you speak of the numbers of people that actually finish, that number is significantly less. So the bad habits i formed in high school would have to be dropped abruptly. In high school I wouldn't even study for alot of my classes and coast by on what I already knew. Teachers would tell you over and over again when things in class were due. In college you teach yourself and professors help guide your education. Here in college you have a passion and desire to succeed and get a degree to provide a better life for yourself. So not doing work isn't an option.I've realized being here that there aren't any excuses you just have to get it all done. Looking back high school was were I met some of my absolute best friends my teammates, and I can honestly call them my brothers. Being here on campus you meet many different people . As these next four years start to shape I know I will meet many friends, and my teammates may also become some of my bestfriends. Some I may even call my brothers like my high school basketball teammates. What is going to happen these four years in college I have absolutely no idea. But what I feel is that this will be a place where I will be shaped as a brother, a son, a basketball player, and a man. It will be a place were I take my education to a higher level and build bonds I will charish for the rest of my life.
